1 dog year = 7 human years… I think.

May 31, 2006

Regardless of the dog to human year conversion, today is Dora's birthday! She is one year old. We will be having cake in her honor!

I wonder when she'll stop chewing everything up…

Back in action!!!

May 31, 2006

The computer's back and so am I! Life is beautiful! I'm excited about being back in the blogosphere! I can't wait to get caught up with reading everyone's blogs! It feels like I've been gone much longer than a week… I'm so lame!

Anyway, I'm really excited about the next few weeks. There's so much going on! You know what that means… plenty of posts! Hopefully you won't get too sick of hearing from me! Here's a list of some of the things that I'm excited about:

1. Summer school starts next Monday. It'll be nice to be back on campus and out of the house!

2. Julie's school year ends next week and she'll be off for the summer. It'll be nice to have her at home with me!

3. Julie is having a baby shower next week.

4. The World Cup! For the first time, every single match will be aired on ESPN. I'm hoping to catch the majority of them.
5. Movies! I'm excited about a lot of the movies this summer… X-men, Superman, Nacho Libre and so much more!

Those are just a few of the things I'm looking forward to. I will be updating frequently!

Also, this past week we got the backyard finished… here's the final product!

Life without the ‘net…

May 26, 2006

Wow… 3 days (and counting) without the internet. I'm at my mom's house right now because my computer wont be ready until next week now. This totally sucks!

I feel so out of the loop. How has the internet been over the past few days? Anything cool happen?

These last few days have been pretty wierd for me. Instead of e-mail I've been CALLING people. Yeah, with a phone… crazy eh? And speaking of phones… remember phone books? I had to pull out the yellow pages a few days ago to find an address. So weird… I felt like I was back in the 90's.

Without the internet I've had a lot of time on my hands. I cleaned the house. I did yardwork. I watched some TV. I even exercised a bit.

So this is what life was like before the world wide web?

I don't like it.

Technical Difficulties

May 23, 2006

Hey everyone! I’m blogging to you right now from the Apple store. I had to bring my computer down here because of a power supply issue and they’ve decided to keep it until Friday! Ugh!

Anyway, I will be computer-less until then… so take care and I’ll be back later this week!

New Name…

May 22, 2006

So “Stuart” has worn out its welcome and I think we’ve moved on to “Noah Jonathan Brown.”

May 18, 2006

There comes a time in a man's life when he can no longer drive the two door hatchback he bought when he started college. Whether he's in need of a larger, safer, more reliable car, or whether his wife wont drive the car because it smells like dirty socks (or both), he must one day upgrade.

That time, my friends, has come.

As of last night, I no longer own a hatchback. Impending parenthood has driven us to seek out a more safe, more reliable, more "doory" transportation option.

We found everything we were looking for in this contraption.

Part car, part van, part truck, part metal box. What more could we ask for?

We now own a Honda Element.

Insanity sets in…

May 16, 2006

Wow. What happened? It seems like just a couple days ago we learned that we were going to have a baby. Now we're only two months away from the due date and I don't feel any more prepared than I did in the first couple months. I'm starting to freak out. Seriously.

I guess I was expecting my life to slow down and let me get ready. That's not happening. If anything, things are getting more complicated.

We've got a whole list of things that we wanted to do before the baby gets here. Of course, we haven't even done half of them and we're running out of time! Who decided that pregnancies would last only nine months? I need at least a few more years!

So, just like a college student in the week before finals, I'm going to start cramming like a mad man! I know that I can't be 100% ready for the baby… but if I don't feel more prepared than I do now I'm going to go insane. Really.

These last two months will be absolutely crazy… if you don't hear from me for a little while, you might want to check the mental hospital!
I'll try to stay sane on you.

Happy Mother’s Day

May 15, 2006

To all the mothers in my life… thank you sincerely for all the great things you have given me. My mother, mother-in-law, sister, friends, and especially my "soon-to-be-mother" wife are all great examples of the love that this world has to offer. Thanks for doing what you do!

I love you all!

Practice run…

May 11, 2006

Yesterday afternoon Julie started to get some shooting pains in her side. Nothing serious… it just hurt! She decided to wait it out and see if they went away. At about 9 p.m. the pains were still happening and she started to worry. Our doctor has a 24 hour nurse on call to answer questions so she decided to call. The nurse said it was probably nothing serious, but she should probably go in to the hospital and get checked out… just in case.

So we made the trip across town and met with the doctor at about 10. After doing a couple hours worth of monitoring the baby, they found nothing abnormal and let us go home. The doctor said the pains may be coming from stretching ligaments or dehydration and told Julie to drink more water.

Thankfully there was nothing wrong with the baby. I'm glad we went down there… the peace of mind is well worth it.

The best thing about the trip is that we got some experience checking into the hospital. She even got monitored in one of the delivery rooms while I sat next to her watching Law & Order. It was like a scrimmage. Now we know exactly where to go and who to talk to on delivery day.

Also, finals are DONE!

Weekend Update

May 8, 2006

Here comes "hell week." That's how we refer to finals week. I don't know if it's a fair comparison though… hell couldn't possibly be as bad as college!

Anyway, my sisters yelled at me tonight for not updating the site enough over the past couple weeks. All I can say is… calm down! Finals will be done on Wednesday and then I'll get back in my groove! Lately it keeps coming down to the "sleep or post on the blog" dilema. There just hasn't been time for both. Sleep usually wins.

Once again, here's a couple mini-posts to hold you over. I promise to think of cooler stuff to post about once the week is over!!!

1. The hospital tour was great! Very informative. We got to see the labor and delivery rooms. They are actually nicer than I imagined! I can think of hotels that are less comfy. We also paid our co-pay and got registered and everything, so now we just have to show up and get the baby out. Less than three months to go!

2. Lately I've been having some pretty sweet father-son moments with the little guy. Julie always goes to sleep before me and lately I've been able to feel him moving around while she's asleep. I'll just get into bed and put my hand on her stomach and wait for him to make contact. It's hard to get one-on-one time with him being inside her and all, but we've found our time to bond. He pushes, and I push back… it's fun.

3. Ok, more names have come into the mix. We're still bouncing Stuart around. The new ones are Noah and Jonah. Carson isn't really in the running. I'm glad everyone likes it so much… I'm just not into it. Julie likes Noah. I like Jonah. We're trying to think of middle names that would fit. I suggested Jonah Than. She wasn't into it.

4. I think women who have gone through pregnancies take joy in saying things like, "Oh look at you! You're huge!" to pregnant women. I've talked about this before… but it seriously happens all the time! My favorite comeback to the "You're huge!" comment would have to be, "Yeah! I'm pregnant… what's your excuse?"

Alright! That's it! Wish me luck!

I'll be back in a few days!
